Overview

OTP (one-time password) verification is an optional security step where the customer must enter a code sent to their email or phone before their booking is confirmed. It reduces fake bookings and no-shows by ensuring only real customers with a valid contact method can complete a booking.

How it works

  1. 1.The customer fills in their booking details and reaches the payment step.
  2. 2.Before the booking is confirmed, they are shown a code entry screen.
  3. 3.BookerBat sends a 6-digit code to their email or phone number.
  4. 4.The customer enters the code and their booking is confirmed.

If the customer doesn't receive the code, they can click Resend to request a new one.

Email OTP

  • •Available on Starter and Pro plans.
  • •The code is sent to the email address the customer provided in the booking form.
  • •The customer must have provided a valid email address to receive the code — email becomes required when this option is enabled.

SMS OTP

  • •Available on Pro plan with the SMS add-on enabled.
  • •The code is sent as a text message to the customer's phone number.
  • •Currently available for businesses in the United States and Canada only.

Enabling OTP verification

Go to Settings → Customer Verification and select your preferred method. See the Customer booking verification article in the Payments section for full setup instructions.

Pending verification bookings

Bookings waiting for the customer to enter their code appear as Pending verification in your Bookings list and Calendar. If the customer doesn't verify within 30 minutes, the time slot is released and other customers can book it.

Tip: Email OTP is the most widely used option and works well for the majority of businesses. Consider SMS OTP if your customers are less likely to check their email promptly — for example, in fast-paced walk-in environments.
